Ganache for Lips started in May 2003 in the kitchen of the creator and owner, Patricia West. Just recovering from treatment for breast cancer, she wanted to create a lip balm for herself and her friends which was all-natural, healing and protective of the lip tissue, and not waxy. What makes the product line so unique is that it contains real chocolate, and not just any chocolate, but Scharffen Berger chocolate. The lip balm line also contains high-quality ingredients, such as shea butter, Vitamin E, and apricot kernel oil, in generous proportions. It is all natural and preserved with Vitamin E and rosemary extract. Unlike many other lip balm lines, Ganache contains no petroleum products. The texture of the product is light, buttery and emollient. "I wanted to make a lip balm that was protective but not waxy like the other brands," said Ganache creator and owner Patricia West. "I think what we have here is something really luscious and decadent, really more of a lip conditioner"
Not all lip balms are created equal. Many lip balms use inexpensive petroleum products like petroleum jelly and mineral oil which actually dry out the skin over time and do not contain any of the beneficial nutrients of their plant-based counterparts. Most lip balms contain artificial and chemical ingredients, usually in the form of artificial flavors and colors. At Ganache for Lips, they work very hard sourcing the highest quality all-natural and unrefined ingredients from botanical sources. It may be harder to accomplish and cost a little more, but they think their customers are worth it. Because the products contain natural ingredients and are made in small lots, there may be slight variations in color and aroma from batch to batch.
Ganache for Lips does not conduct animal testing and does not conduct business with anyone who does. They proudly support the Berkeley East Bay Humane Society and the ASPCA.
